1. Choose your scissors first
Scissors are the cornerstone of every groomer's workflow. Decide between straight, curved, and thinning shears — and consider the steel grade (440C is the salon standard) and handle ergonomics for long working days.
2. Match combs to your coat mix
Carry at least one steel-pin and one wide-tooth comb. For sensitive or fine coats, round-pin combs reduce irritation. For double coats, a long-pin comb reaches the undercoat.
3. Dematting tools matter
Mats are the #1 reason for a poor finish. A slicker brush and dematting rake are essential, especially for high-volume salons and mobile groomers dealing with multiple coat types.
4. Consider your business model
Salons need reliable everyday tools. Mobile groomers need light, durable gear. Distributors and trainers need consistent batch quality and OEM flexibility.
5. Plan for OEM early
If you're building a private-label line, lock your supplier's OEM process (logo, color, packaging) before scaling — that way your product is retail-ready out of the box.
